Rolling a joint may seem like a daunting task for a beginner, but with a little practice, it can become second nature. After all, smoked cannabis is becoming one of the most popular marijuana delivery methods for both recreational and medical users.
To start, you’ll need a rolling paper (preferably organic or hemp-based varieties) along with cannabis flower of your choice. Pre-ground buds are easiest to use, so a grinder is an easy and affordable option. Then, you’ll need a tool to mould the joint—you can either use your hands, a cardstock, or in more extreme cases, an electric roller (which isn’t suggested). If you’re feeling creative and want to add a few extra extras, you can sprinkle a bit of crutch material—or the filter—into the mix.
Once you’ve gathered all the necessary tools, it’s time to get into the nitty-gritty details. First, take your paper and manipulate it into a (roughly) rectangular shape. With a pinch at the end, make sure the joint is curved ever so slightly on the front and sealed on the back. This is a difficult process yet it’s key to rolling a solid joint, since flat papers will cause the joint to be either too loose or too tight.
In terms of filling the joint, the trick is to not overstuff the paper. Start by sprinkling an even layer of ground flower on the paper. Then use a cardstock or your hands to gently press the Layer down. Make sure not to press down too hard as this will cause the weed to get compressed and won’t give off any smoke. Now that you have the base of the joint filled, take your crutch material and wrap it around the end to make sure the contents are kept inside.
Once this is all done, it’s time to actually roll the joint. You may want to practice this step if you’re new to the art of rolling joints, as it takes a bit of finesse. Start by putting your index finger and the thumb of your opposite hand on the left, middle and right parts of the joint and gently pushing those up and inward to form an even cone. You can then fold the paper back around the cone and tuck the excess paper on the end.
After you’ve attained a tight and consistent roll, take the joint to your lips and give it a few playful puffs. This should create a small hole at the end that you can use to light up. Make sure to take slow and steady draws and remember to cycle through different burning points to ensure an even and smooth smoking experience.
Rolling a joint may seem intimidating, but once you understand the basics and practice, you’ll be a pro in no time!
